Halloween: “Barbie” and Marvel superhero costumes banned for striking actors in Hollywood

The costumes of Barbie and Marvel superheroes won’t be popular with Hollywood stars this Halloween. On the 100th day of the strike, the American Actors Union urged its 160,000 members to avoid costumes inspired by characters from major studio films or series.

In a press release issued Thursday evening, SAG-AFTRA (the American actors union) reminded striking actors and actresses of the importance of staying united on Halloween by banning them from posting photos of them in character costumes used for major productions Hollywood studios advertise – what they are against in this conflict.

“It is better to choose costumes inspired by generic characters (ghosts, zombies, spiders),” the union wrote in the message to its members.

“Let us use our collective power to send a clear and clear message to our employers that we will not support their productions without a fair contract,” he added.

From Harley Quinn to Marvel and DC Comics superheroes, including characters from Squid Game, Stranger Things and Hocus Pocus, the most popular Halloween costumes in recent years are all linked to major Hollywood productions.

This also applies to Barbie, Oppenheimer and Wednesday Addams, who will most likely inspire many costumes this year.

Hollywood stars will therefore have to show a lot of imagination when putting together their costumes this year.

On the social network X (formerly Twitter), Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds responded with humor to his union’s recommendation.

“I can’t wait to scream ‘scab’ at my 8 year old daughter all night long. She’s not a member of our union but she needs to learn,” he jokingly wrote.

In recent years, it has become a tradition for Hollywood stars to share photos of themselves in their Halloween costumes on social networks. We bet they will be more discreet this year…
