Three-time Grammy nominee Halsey slammed Capitol Records Sunday morning for demanding she create “a fake viral moment on TikTok” before the label would allow them to release a new song.
“Basically, I have a song that I love that I want to release asap, but my record label won’t let me,” the 27-year-old pop star – whose pronoun is s/he – explained on TikTok.
“I’ve been in this industry for eight years and have sold over 165 million records and my record label says I can’t release them unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.”

The New Jersey native then uploaded a second TikTok, which featured the voice of a Capitol Records employee laying out a marketing plan while patiently listening to a phone conversation.
The male voice said, “… turn that off. The song title because it would be Halsey’s So Good and they would get the art on TikTok. If you’re okay with those things but not announcing the day, then I think we could hang that. Honestly I think we’ll put that up sometime between Monday and Wednesday whenever they can adjust the artwork. [beat] What?’
Halsey was heard replying, “I just hate this.”

And also, in what world would you ever have to call me Tell me you’re having a baby? But I have to call you because it affects your product.
Last August, Halsey complained about how humiliating it was to have to tell Capitol Records that she was pregnant.
