Hamas authorities report more than 12,300 deaths

According to Hamas authorities, the number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip has risen to more than 12,300 since the war began six weeks ago. Around 30,000 people were injured, the government press office in Gaza reported on Saturday night. There are more than 5,000 children and young people among the dead. There are also thousands of people missing. Currently, the numbers cannot be independently verified.

This is reportedly by far the highest number of Palestinians killed during a war in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Gaza Strip authority recently stopped publishing a daily update on the number of victims. Observers cited Israeli bombings, the increasing collapse of the healthcare system and the actions of Israeli troops in the north of the isolated coastal strip as reasons. Authorities recently spoke of around 11,500 deaths.

The war was triggered by the worst massacre in Israel’s history, perpetrated by terrorists from the Islamic group Hamas and other Palestinian extremist organizations, on October 7, in Israel, near the border with the Gaza Strip. On the Israeli side, more than 1,200 people were killed in the following days, including many women, children and young people.
