(Sputnik) The military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, the AlQassam Brigades, announced on Sunday (3) that it had bombed Israeli forces in the city of Beit Hanun in the northeast of the Gaza Strip, killing several soldiers.
“AlQassam militants targeted Zionist special forces holed up in a building in Beit Hanoun… several soldiers were killed,” the military wing said in a statement.
AlQassam Brigades said later the same day that it hit two Israeli tanks with 105mm Yassin shells south of the town of Beit Lahia in the north of the enclave.
On October 7, Hamas launched a major rocket attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, breaching the border. Israel launched retaliatory strikes and ordered a complete blockade of Gaza, cutting off supplies of water, food and fuel. On October 27, Israel began a ground attack in the Gaza Strip with the stated aim of eliminating Hamas militants and freeing hostages.
CONTINUED AFTER RECOMMENDATIONS
Last week, Qatar brokered an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a temporary ceasefire and the exchange of some prisoners and hostages, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The ceasefire has been extended several times, but on Friday the Israeli army resumed fighting against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, claiming the group had violated the humanitarian pause by opening fire into Israeli territory.
