Hank Jr. is the son of legendary musician Hank Williams, widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in the country music genre.

The senior Williams died in 1953 at the age of 29, but he played such a pivotal role in transforming the Western genre that country songs he wrote decades ago are still considered standards today.

Williams, 72, was recently inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and is best known for the song All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight, a version of which has been played on Monday Night Football for more than 20 years.

During an October 3, 2011 interview on Fox & Friends, Williams called a golf game that pitted President Barack Obama and Republican House Speaker John Boehner against Vice President Joe Biden and Ohio Gov. John Kasich “one of the greatest political ones.” mistakes of all time”. ‘

When asked why the innocent 18-hole game bothers him so much, he said: “Come on. That would be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu… in the state this country is in?

He went on to describe the President and Vice President as “the enemy” and then likened them to “the three henchmen.”

When Gretchen Carlson commented, “You used the name of one of the most hated people in the entire world to describe, I think, the President,” Williams replied, “Well, that’s right. But I’ll tell you how it is.”

As a result of his statements, ESPN removed his song from Monday Night Football for the week and replaced it with the national anthem.

He said his analogy might have been a bit “extreme” but he still has the utmost respect for the office of president.

“Working class people are hurting – and it seems nobody cares. When both sides high five on the ninth hole while everyone else is out of a job, it infuriates many of us. Something has to change. Politics needs to change,” he said in a statement at the time.

Days later, ESPN fired back, saying they had decided to officially part ways with Williams and no longer play his song at the start of every Monday night game.

Hank said it was his own decision to take his song off the sports network: “After reading hundreds of emails, I made MY decision. By pulling my opening on October 3rd, you (ESPN) have stepped on the toe of First Amendment free speech, so Me, My Song and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT HERE. It was a great run.”
