Germany's Hapag-Lloyd will continue to divert its ships from the Suez Canal and around the Cape of Good Hope for safety reasons, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.

“We still consider the situation to be dangerous,” said the spokesperson for the world’s fifth-largest container line. “We are making new assessments every day and will make the next decisions on Monday, January 15.”

Like its rivals, Hapag-Lloyd is avoiding the Red Sea after Yemen's Houthi militant group began attacking merchant ships and disrupting global trade to show support for Hamas. (Reporting by Elke Ahlswede, writing by Nette Nöstlinger, editing by Miranda Murray)
