Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, are being invited to the coronation of King Charles III, the couple said in a statement.
They say they received an email about the May 6 coronation, but won’t confirm if they plan to attend.
It is understood that some potential guests will be asked to save the date ahead of official invitations, which will be sent out later.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on invitations.
There has been speculation as to whether the US-based couple would be invited and whether they would attend the coronation of King Charles and Camilla, the Queen.
A statement from Prince Harry and Meghan said they have been contacted about the coronation.
“I can confirm that the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s Office regarding the coronation,” a spokesman for the couple said.
“An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be announced by us at this time.”
Westminster Abbey, where the coronation will take place, can accommodate around 2,200 guests. Numerous public figures, politicians and international dignitaries as well as the family and friends of the king are expected.
Formal printed invitations are expected to be sent out in a timely manner, but some groups of guests are expected to be approached in advance to be advised to save the date.
The focus on whether Prince Harry and Meghan will attend the coronation follows revelations in his memoir about tensions with his family.
When Prince Harry returns for the coronation, it’s unknown what role he could play as he’s no longer a ‘working royal’.
During the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Prince Harry and Meghan were not part of the performances on the Buckingham Palace balcony. These traditional performances for the masses will also be part of the coronation celebrations.
It also emerged last week that Prince Harry and Meghan had been asked to vacate Frogmore Cottage, the couple’s British base in Windsor.
