Harry Potter has many filming secrets just waiting to be revealed. And Seriously loves sharing them with you, which is why today we will focus on the family ties between the five actors of the saga.
Brendan Gleeson (Mad Eye in Harry Potter) and his son

In the Mad Eye family we ask about the father and the son! At least in real life, since Brendan Gleeson had the opportunity to see his childPlay as a member of the Weasley family in Harry Potter. And not just anyone, please the elder! His character appears in parts 1 and 2 of Deathly Hallows, a role he got after visiting his father on the set of the fourth part.
“I was on set to see my dad filming, which was great because I was a huge Harry Potter fan. And they asked me if I wanted to be a Weasley double because I looked like the twins (…) In the end I didn’t do it, but it allowed me to audition to be in the last two films,” said Brendan Gleeson in an interview for the BUILD series.
Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort) and his nephew

What do Ralph Fiennes and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin have in common? Not only were they part of the same family, but they also played the same character in Harry Potter. If the first obviously borrows his facial features from Voldemort, then the second plays his younger version in The Half-Blood Prince. And yes, it was Ralph Fiennes’ nephew, who was 10 at the time of filming and played Tom Riddle as a child in the flashbacks!
And in an interview with PEOPLE, the actor admitted that he has very fond memories of the experience. “It was cool, it was more of a fun experience than something that would define my acting career (…) They sold it to me and said it would make me miss several days of school!”
Emma Watson (Hermione) and her brother

If Brendan Gleeson and Hero Fiennes-Tiffin got important roles in the teenage saga, this was not the case with Emma Watson’s brother who only had a simple appearance in the Order of the Phoenix. The latter appears for a few seconds during dinner in the common room in front of his sister and right next to Ruppert Grint, who is devouring his food.

It was Tom Felton himself who proudly revealed in 2020 that his grandfather, Nigel Anstey, appeared in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Draco Malfoy’s interpreter shared on Instagram a shot from the first part, during the game between Slytherin and Gryffindor. “This is Lee Jordan… and my grandfather, my real grandfather (left).” Nigel Anstey appeared a second time as an extra next to Dumbledore in the common room.

Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney) and her sister

While Emma Thompson plays Professor Trelawney, a lunar character who has a very particular style of clothing, her sister Sophie Thompson’s character in Deathly Hallows Part 1 is completely different. She plays Mafalda Hopkrik, an employee at the Ministry of Magic the Nines. And during this scene, Hermione appears to enter the place thanks to Polyjuice Juice.
Additionally, Sophie Thompson shared the behind-the-scenes story of this scene in an interview with the BBC. “We had to escape the Dementors, creatures that Harry Potter fans know well and that suck out your soul (…) I was wearing heels because I play this little secretary and they said to me: Sophie, you’re walking way too fast !”No one can follow you!”
Little bonus: Chris Columbus’ children

Chris Columbus had a little fun with the Harry Potter saga, as he had his children act in the first two installments he directed. While Violet, Isabelle and Brendan Columbus only make up the numbers, their other daughter Eleanor plays a more important role as Susan Bones, the first student at Hogwarts to have the honor of passing through the Sorting Hat.
