Prince Harry meets Bryony Gordon from The Telegraph in Montecito. And he puts the finishing touches: “The first draft had 800 pages, now it’s 400”. The desire for reconciliation
“There is material to write a second book.” Harry’s final blow, after several statements on television, came with his first interview with a newspaper across the Channel. “The first draft was different. It was 800 pages and now it’s less than 400. It could be two books, for example. And the hard part was taking things off,” Harry told The Telegraph’s Bryony Gordon as she flew overseas to Montecito to meet the prince.
She adds, “Things have happened between my dad and I that I just don’t want the world to know about. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me.” And to confirm that – despite those 400 pages torn out for now (and who knows there will be a sequel to the book tomorrow?) you actually leave the door open to a possible reconciliation , adding that he spoke this way “to save her from herself», in short why the royal family could see the reality of things? «And I know that many will crucify me for what I say ».
“But I didn’t do all this to bury the monarchy, I did it to save it,” notes the prince, who also adds his fears for William’s children: “At least one of them will also be a substitute, a cadet”.
And when speaking of William, whom he spared nothing in the book, he says that he was the one who first suggested that he go to therapy, but that he started after meeting Meghan. “He William wanted to talk (about the trauma of Diana’s death) when we were young … I didn’t want to.” Then over the years “I started to get a little freaky and turned to alcohol and drugs, and he shut down completely”.
Furthermore, Harry adds that he hopes to be reunited with his family one day once the dust has settled, while admitting that they obviously didn’t like his way of making “his truth” public.
Harry also talks to his ghostwriter JR Moehringer about the way he works: “It was definitely cathartic, and it was painful at times. It opened my eyes.”
And he admits that he felt unhappy before Meghan’s arrival: “I never realized how unhappy I was. I didn’t allow myself to think that here.”
