The 46th edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fairone of the largest literary events in Latin America, opened its doors in the Argentine capital with Havana as the guest city of honour.

After a two-year break, the long-awaited Festival of Letters is taking place in the La Rural exhibition space until May 16th.

Organized by the El Libro Foundation, The event brings together exhibitors from more than 40 countries and includes numerous cultural activities.

On this occasion, Cuban literature, cinema, music and handicrafts will decorate the Buenos Aires Fair.

For almost three weeks, the exhibition area will be waiting for more than a million readers and 12,000 professionals to visit.

The Cuban delegation consists of the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, and the President of the Casa de las Americas, Abel Prieto.

They will be joined by playwright Antonio Rodríguez, island-based Argentine writer Basilia Papastamatíu, essayist and researcher Enrique Ubieta, and poets Víctor Casaus and Nancy Morejón.

In 1975 the Book Fair was held in Buenos Aires for the first time.

The event achieves great relevance in the publishing sector and in the promotion of art and literature.

With almost three decades of history, the Buenos Aires Fair is considered one of the most important events of its kind in Argentina.

The days are dedicated to the exchange and training of professionals in the sector.

The program includes conferences, book presentations, courses, lectures, poetry festivals, dialogues between storytellers and a day of microfiction.

This week, Minister of Culture Tristán Bauer thanked Havana for accepting the invitation.

“A figure who unites our peoples by preaching for human betterment,” the Argentine official said.

During the inauguration, the headline emphasized its importance as a place that brings together professionals and the public and encourages the passion for reading.

“Books shouldn’t be luxury items. We strive for every child to get to know them,” he later said.
