Hayden Panettiere shares more about custody of their only child.
In a new episode of Red Table Talk, Panettiere opened up about the “very disturbing” experience of giving him custody of their 7-year-old daughter with former partner Wladmir Klitschko.
Panettiere has previously said that at the time of this decision in 2018, she was struggling with substance abuse and the issue was not up for “discussion.”
“If [Klitschko] had come up to me and said ‘I think because of your current situation and the struggles you’re having it would be good for her to be here with me for a while – which if I’d probably had enough of that conversation I would have said, okay that makes sense, I understand I’m coming to visit.”
This week’s episode stars co-hosts Jada Pinkett Smith, Adrienne Banfield Norris and guest host Kelly Osbourne.
Panettiere said the papers gave Klitschko full custody of their daughter.
“It was the worst thing signing those papers, the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever had to do in my life… I wanted to work on myself, I would get better, and when I got better things would change and you might too.” I could come and spend my time with her, but that didn’t happen,” Panettiere said in a clip from the episode.
Panettiere added, “It was the hardest thing I could do,” she recalls. “But the best thing for my daughter was making sure she’s okay, taking care of myself and making sure I can be a good mother to her. And sometimes that means letting go.”
