A young Algerian in an irregular situation in France made a macabre discovery at the weekend while trying to settle in a shelter in Lyon, in the Rhône-Alpes region.
The young man was looking for somewhere to squat in the 3rd arrondissement when he came across a mummified corpse in a bed, Le Progrès reported on Sunday.
The man, who was seeking shelter to spend the night, rushed to report his mishap to the police, the local newspaper reported, without revealing the suspect’s identity.
Police then launched an investigation to establish the identity of the victim after requesting an autopsy to clarify the circumstances of this death, it said.
A similar case shocked the Lyon region last June when police discovered the body of an 18-year-old woman in a squat in the 7th arrondissement.
