Former Schalke player Hiannick Kamba was arrested by police after a long escape.
WHAT HAPPENED? Former Schalke 04 youth player, Hiannick Kamba, was arrested by the police. The Essen Public Prosecutor’s Office announced this when questioned by the Bild newspaper on Thursday.
WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? Kamba has now been in prison for some time after a long escape. The now 34-year-old was sentenced to three years and ten months in prison in November 2021 for faking his own death to receive 1.2 million euros from his life insurance for himself and his wife.
Kamba was initially allowed to leave under certain conditions because the verdict was not yet final. After a defeat at a higher stage, the punishment was certain. However, he fled and was wanted for almost two years under an international arrest warrant.
About a month ago, French police managed to capture Kamba.
WHAT WAS SAID? “The suspect was arrested on September 4 in Noyon, France,” Dr. Leif Seeger, spokesman for the Essen Public Prosecutor’s Office, said in the statement.

WHAT IS THE NEXT? Kamba, who played with Manuel Neuer in Schalke A’s youth system, is already in a German prison. Authorities caught him on a plane on September 22.
