He unearths a gold nugget worth nearly $250,000

Fortune smiled on an Australian who used an amateur metal detector to unearth a gold nugget worth nearly $250,000 in Australia.

The man is said to have found the 4.6kg nugget deep in the heart of Australia’s “Golden Triangle” in Victoria between Bendigo, Ballarat and Saint-Arnaud, The Guardian reported on Wednesday.

“Do you think it’s worth $10,000?” the Australian would have asked while he was getting it examined by an expert.

Wide-eyed, the expert would have preferred to reply that the pebble he was holding, which contained a total of 83 ounces of gold, was worth the sum of $240,000.

“I have been in prospecting for 43 years. And I’ve never seen a specimen with that amount of gold in my 43 years, said Darren Kamp, who owns Lucky Strike Gold in Geelong. Some may have been found in the 1850s, but as of today it is very rare.”

The gold digger was particularly lucky, especially since his metal detector was in the lower area. If the nugget had been buried deeper than 12 inches, his machine would not have rung.

The nugget was nicknamed “Lucky Strike”, which means “Lucky Strike” in English.

The largest nugget found in Australia, dubbed the “Welcome Unknown,” was unearthed in 1869 and contained 2,300 ounces of gold, according to British media.
