A 17-year-old boy has died after falling off the 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles while trying to film his climb for social media.
The young man lost his footing on one of the arches of the bridge. The latter wanted to film his stunt to spread it on social networks, police say. “He slipped and fell to his death,” Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said.
The authorities intervened as early as the night of May 20 to help the teenager. His death was announced at the hospital.
His name has not been released and police will not reveal the name of the platform on which he attempted to document his reckless act.
“Unfortunately, this bridge, the pride of Los Angeles, is now the scene of such tragedies,” said Michel Moore. We will place more patrols in the area to deter such behavior.”
The nearly $588 million bridge opened to traffic in July 2022, replacing the old bridge that was dedicated 84 years earlier.
It has been closed many times as it has been targeted by daredevils for street racing, graffiti or dangerous stunts that drew large crowds.
One of them concerns an influencer who set up a barber chair in the middle of the alley to have his hair cut.
