AGI – Chinese customs authorities intercepted a woman attempting to leave the country Hong Kong to the southeastern city of Shenzhen with five live snakes hidden in housings attached to the body. The news was reported by various local media.
Officials strip-searched the travelers after noticing their “odd body shape,” the pro-government Global Times reported. They found five “Corn Snakes” stuffed into stockings fastened to the woman’s torso.
The customs authorities handed over the reptiles to the responsible authorities, but did not say whether the traveler could be fined. Corn snakes (Elaphe guttata) can grow up to 182 centimeters long and are harmless to humans, making them one of the most desirable species for domestic pets.
