Heavy gusts expected for Storm Fiona to pass, orange alert triggered for Fri

After yesterday (Thursday, September 15) the orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms was issued, expected weather conditions forced the prefecture to also issue the orange alert for strong winds. The department remains in yellow for dive waves.

At 11 a.m. on Friday, September 16, the estimated center of Tropical Storm Fiona was approximately 230 km east of Désirade.
Fiona is moving west at about 13 mph and will cross the Caribbean arc by the end of the day.

Storm track development will generate more sustained winds on Guadeloupe.

This afternoon east-northeast winds averaging 35 km/h or even 50 km/h are expected on La Désirade. Phenomenon weakening slightly in the evening, then migrating south-southeast overnight, strengthening sharply at an average of 60/80 km/h.
At night it blows in gusts of up to 100/120 km/h.

On Saturday morning the wind turns east to east-southeast and decreases slightly but could still reach 80/90 km/h and then 60/70 km/h in the afternoon limited to the Côte Sous-le-Vent and relief.

The passage of Fiona will create a strong sea that will be lifted by a low energy east-northeast swell
Maximum lows of 4m to 4.50m are forming in the Atlantic and Channels this afternoon. Tonight the valleys have dipped slightly at 3.80am to 4.20am.

However, the sea should calm down quickly from the end of the next night or from Saturday morning
later.

Tomorrow, Saturday, another heavy sea early in the morning, 3m, becoming choppy with east-north-east swells late in the afternoon.

As a reminder, the archipelago is on yellow alert for sinking waves.

On the rainy side, the first rainy spells associated with the Fiona storm continue in the form of stormy showers that can be of high intensity.
Gradually, the rains should become more intense and take on a more continuous character. At the end of the day, then in the evening and that night from Friday to Saturday, torrential rain with numerous flooding is to be feared.
Conditions will remain tricky tomorrow, Saturday, with many more rain showers
strong and stormy.
Precipitation accumulations of the order of 150 to 250 mm or even more are possible over the entire duration
the consequence.
An improvement is expected from Sunday morning.
