Heidi Montag Says She’s “Going into Real Estate” Because “I Don’t Want to Wait for TV Money”

Heidi Montag made the bombshell announcement that she’s “going into real estate” to escape showbiz financial instability.

“So I think we need a different income,” she told the Perez Hilton Podcast. “I don’t want to wait for TV money. We’ve spent far too much of our money.’

The 35-year-old appeared on the podcast with her husband and The Hills co-star Spencer Pratt, who plans to eventually follow her into reality.

When Perez asked why “only” Heidi was going into real estate, Spencer assured him that “she’s the first one,” but that he would eventually make the leap too.

“Now that I’ve decided to do it, Spencer is like, ‘Oh, I’m going to do it too!’ I’m like, “Great, we’re both going to do it,” said Heidi.

“And maybe that will lead to more television,” Perez teased. “Reality shows about real estate are very popular these days.”

He was referring to Selling Sunset and Million Dollar Listing.

Heidi explained: “Yes, so I have classes next week and it’s like an eight-hour course and then I have a few other things and then pre-exams and then exams.”

The reality TV blonde claimed that she “didn’t try to pressure me because a lot of people fail the first time” when they take real estate license tests.

However, she said, “And I already have a big agency that said I could come and work for them and study with them.”

She has pondered the prospect of going into real estate for over a year as “it’s one of the best jobs in the country” and “I love to work, I love to hustle, I’m such a social person, so I am so right up my alley, that’s something I’d love to do. I love houses, I love real estate so I think this would be perfect for me.”

Last year, Girls Next Door and Kendra On Top’s Kendra Wilkinson became a real estate agent.

Spencer and Heidi rose to fame as a couple on The Hills, which recently had a short-lived revival on MTV with the subtitle New Beginnings.

Alongside her reality show appearances, ‘Speidi’ has pursued other financial ventures such as Spencer selling crystals and ‘healing crystal jewellery’.

He sells the products at a Pacific Palisades store called Pratty Daddy, which he recently told Esquire can bring in $300,000 a month if business goes well.

Meanwhile, the new spate of reality shows about real estate agents has picked up the hit Netflix series Selling Sunset, which has made a star of its “villain” Christine Quinn.

Actress Chrishell Stause, who was married to This Is Us beefcake Justin Hartley when the show began, has also reached new heights of fame through Selling Sunset.

A few years ago, Spencer and Heidi spoke candidly to People magazine about how quickly they burned their money from The Hills.

While on The Hills, they made over $2 million a year between TV money, their public appearances, and pre-arranged shoots with the paparazzi.

However, their overspending quickly caught up with them as they began to compete with celebrity lifestyles in a vastly different stratosphere than theirs.

“We’ve been keeping up with the Joneses, but we’ve been up against Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. We should have stayed in our reality TV lane,” Spencer admitted.

“I kind of played house,” said Heidi, who once had 10 cosmetic procedures in a single day during her years with The Hills.

“I felt like someone I wasn’t. We had business managers telling us to stop spending, but we acted like we knew what we were doing.”
