Helena Bonham Carter has asked for The Crown series to end now.
“I should be careful here too, but I don’t think they should actually go ahead,” she said in an interview with The Guardian. I’m in and I’ve loved my episodes, but now it’s very different. When The Crown began it was a historical drama, and now it collides with the present.
However, the actress believes the decision to end the series rests with the producers.
According to Variety, in 2021, the actress addressed the controversy surrounding The Crown, in regards to demanding a disclaimer that it’s historical fiction. The show had been criticized for its dramatization of events in the British royal family, particularly the relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles. In a podcast for the series, the actress, who played Princess Margaret, said the series is a “drama,” not a “drama documentary.”
Helena Bonham Carter portrayed the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II in the third and fourth seasons of the series, succeeding Vanessa Kirby. Lesley Manville reprized her role in season five, set in the 1990s.
