The “real problem” for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza is “the way Israel is carrying out its offensive,” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres accused on Friday.

“Many people measure the effectiveness of humanitarian operations in Gaza by the number of trucks from the Egyptian Red Crescent, the United Nations and our partners that are allowed to cross the border. “It’s a mistake,” he told the press.
“The real problem is the way Israel is carrying out its offensive, which is creating massive obstacles to the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza,” he stressed, emphasizing that a “ceasefire” is the only way to respond to those desperate will meet the needs of the people of Gaza and end the nightmare they are experiencing.”
After the Security Council vote that did not call for this ceasefire, he made it clear that he had “hoped” for more from the Council.
And “I hope that today’s resolution makes it clear to people that a humanitarian ceasefire is indeed necessary if we want effective humanitarian assistance.”
The secretary general also said he was “extremely disappointed by statements made by senior Israeli officials questioning the two-state solution.”
“As difficult as it seems today, the two-state solution, in accordance with UN resolutions, international law and previous agreements, is the only path to lasting peace,” he said.
