Henry Rodriguez and Wilfredo Cordero arrive in Montreal

Former Expos color bearers Henry Rodriguez and Wilfredo Cordero will be at the IGA Stadium in Montreal this weekend to meet and sign autographs as part of the Sports Hobby Expo event.

These sessions take place on Saturday and Sunday between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm and are organized by the Expos Fest group.

Rodriguez, 55, only played two full seasons at the Expos, in 1996 and 1997. However, his tenure was notable as he once represented the team in the All-Star Game. Devoted fans also remember the madness that led to a sudden shower of “Oh Henry!” candy bars on the Olympic Stadium field just as Rodriguez hit a home run. At the end of his career, in 2002, the Dominican returned to the Expos for around twenty games.

Cordero also had two stints with the Expos, the first from 1992 through 1995. The shortstop found particular success during the famously shortened 1994 season, in which he averaged a .294 batting in 110 games. The Expos repatriated the Puerto Rican in May 2002 after he was released by the Cleveland Indians.

Proceeds from signing sessions with Rodriguez and Cordero will be used to raise funds for Expos Fest’s new mission: building the future Kat Demes Pavilion. The aim of this project is to accommodate families whose children are undergoing long-term treatment at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
