Even though the collection of Christmas films is enriched with dozens of new titles every year, we all keep in our hearts a classic of the genre that we never tire of watching again every holiday season. Here are the six must-see Christmas movies from the Shows section of Newspaper.
Mr. Jack's Strange Christmas

Sometimes we quickly go through the Christmas classics. Luckily, there's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which Tim Burton came up with to change the scenery a bit! Dark, a little disturbing and absolutely funny: the animated film is a true work of art that mixes the worlds of Halloween and Christmas in a very entertaining way. (PM)

Mom, I missed the plane

The failure of the hugely failed remake of “Mom, I Missed the Plane” produced by Disney two years ago proved to us at least one thing: the original 1990 film is simply perfect and in no way needed to be revisited. More than 30 years after its release, this Chris Columbus classic has not aged a bit and remains the best adventure comedy to watch on vacation with the family. (MD)

Boreal Express

There's nothing like a good Tom Hanks animated film to get you in the Christmas spirit. Boréal Express offers us a visually very successful journey to the North Pole, full of adventure, enough to give back the magic to those who have lost it. (AC)

Santa Claus is trash

Who wants a little Kloug? Unlike Mr. Preskovich's indigestible dish, this 1982 French comedy starring Thierry Lhermitte and Anémone remains palatable despite the passage of time. A Christmas without the terrible painting that Pierre gives to Thérèse? At least not with us. (CB)

Crystal trap

This action film starring young Bruce Willis has been a Christmas classic since 1988. It's about ruthless police officer John McClane, who fights German terrorists on Christmas Eve while trying to win back his wife. Knowing that the actor suffers from dementia, we expect we'll be even more moved watching him this year. (SEN)

Rent

No, “Rent” isn’t a classic Christmas movie where the characters celebrate New Year’s Eve and happily share the traditional turkey. But this musical comedy – adapted from Broadway's mega-hit – treats the holidays as the start and end point of its plot, where themes of poverty, illness and death collide to highlight love, kindness and community spirit. And don’t these basic values also belong to Christmas? (BL)
