Here are the 5 tech products you liked the most this Christmas (and there are surprises): Lemon squeezer

Despite the crisis, the French still preferred tech products at Christmas. According to a study by German magazine GamingGadgets based on Google search volume in the last quarter of 2023, the most popular tech products in France are not the ones we think of.

Although consoles are usually the big stars of Christmas, none of them manage to take the top spot in the search. Nevertheless, they remain well represented, with two models appearing in the top five.

Airpods, poinsettias

In an uncertain economic environment, the French have turned to safe values. Apple AirPods recorded the highest search volume in France in the last quarter of 2023. Apple sees its iPhone 14 also popular for the holidays (4th in the ranking), while the iPhone 15 is missing from the top 5.

The 2nd and 3rd places in the ranking are occupied by the Nintendo Switch, which of course benefits from the holiday effect at the end of the year but also from the arrival of a new generation (thus boosting the search), and the Steam Deck, a portable console from Ventil. The latter also benefited from the strong media presence at the end of the year with the launch of a new OLED model.

Finally, e-readers continue to capture the interest of French consumers. The search query “Kindle” is ranked 5th in the Google search rankings for the last quarter of 2023.

An informative study, but one that needs to be put into perspective

The study carried out by GamingGadgets gives good indications of the purchasing behavior of the French for the end-of-year holidays. Firstly, the popular products are offered at very different prices, from under 100 euros to over 800 euros (for the iPhone 14). A sign that the economic crisis is over: the PS5, for example, is not at the top, while Sony has introduced a new slim edition of its flagship console.

“This data provides a fascinating insight into which tech items people were most looking forward to receiving as holiday gifts,” said Nico Arnold, spokesman for GamingGadgets. The study took into account searches from October to December, including searches for Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, and revealed which gadgets are most interesting at this time of year in France. »

Despite everything, it is appropriate to put the figures from the German media in perspective, which only take into account an average of the search volume on Google. There is no evidence that these searches resulted in purchases.
