Gareth Edwards, Director of Villain One and from Godzillapits John David Washington, Gemma Chan and Ken Watanabe against each other as they track down and protect a new form of artificial intelligence (AI) in the form of a child (Madeleine Yuna Voyles).

In the year 2070, the world is in the midst of a global conflict. In fact, a computer detonated a nuclear bomb in the middle of Los Angeles, and the United States responded by banning all robots and other forms of AI. And now they roam freely in the Far East while the NOMAD defense system hunts them relentlessly. Enter Joshua (John David Washington, son of Denzel Washington, who doesn’t have the talent for the job), a special forces member who was previously injured in a particularly deadly mission in which he lost his partner Maya (Gemma Chan ) and her child.

Joshua is sent to Vietnam (here we sense a hint of undigested history) to track down a superior form of AI and its creator, one Nirmata, and there he comes across the robot, a little girl he calls Alphie (Madeleine Yuna Voyles). and that he then wants to protect.

The script for “The Creator”, co-written with Chris Weitz, quickly goes in circles, the “philosophical” theme (the quotation marks are essential) gives way to unnecessary action scenes and artificially gives “The Creator” the look of a poorly digested patchwork of Terminator and intelligence ( by Kubrick and Spielberg) or Ex Machina, and without the inspiration of Oblivion, which is considered a masterpiece in comparison.

Where Gareth Edwards shines is the way he designed the visual effects. With a reduced budget, he came up with the idea of shooting in exotic locations that were as close as possible to the locations in the script. He then added the ships, robots and other effects in post-production, ensuring undeniable quality at a lower cost… which gives hope for the use of this formula for Marvel and other blockbusters with pharaonic budgets and unfashionable special effects at supersonic speeds ( watch the first Thor again today, no joke).

The designer will take the stage from September 28th.
