Here is the world’s first-ever augmented reality laptop – Les Numériques

Will the computer of the future still have a screen? Sightful’s Spacetop tends to show that working on a virtual screen, seen only by those wearing augmented reality glasses, could be a good alternative to the laptop PC as we know it today.

For its developers, this first-ever wearable augmented reality PC in the world represents nothing more and nothing less than the beginning of the next generation of personal computers. It would also be the first democratized practical application of augmented reality, which means that the project is particularly ambitious .

A 100-inch screen for $2000

By wearing a pair of simple connected glasses, you end up with a 100-inch diagonal screen. The idea is to be able to carry your workplace with you in a virtual but also private and personalized way.

At the hardware level, all you need is a keyboard and some augmented reality glasses to carry with you. The PC has its own operating system (Spacetop OS) and has a relatively short battery life of only 5 hours. Note that it is compatible with WiFi 6 and 5G though. In fact, it works like any laptop, without gesture controls.

The applications are superimposed on the real world, so the user is not completely decoupled from his environment. In this way, he can work comfortably and in total intimacy, in the respect of privacy, hidden from the eyes of the curious, wherever he is: at home, in transport, in a café or in the office.

Currently in development, Spacetop is the subject of a program open to a thousand testers for $2,000.
