Here’s what bothers Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was not included in the team’s squad for Saturday and Sunday’s clashes with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The 24-year-old athlete suffers from a left wrist injury.

“To be honest, my motivation [d’être là à tous les matchs] is always the same. I really tried to play. I just couldn’t,” Guerrero Jr. told Sportsnet through his interpreter.

The first baseman felt pain when he hit the plate in the third inning of last Friday’s game against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. For the rest of that game, Guerrero Jr. was in “a little pain.”

“When I woke up [samedi], I felt tension. So I realized I’d better get it checked out,” he said.

The pain in his left wrist that plagues Guerrero Jr. is similar to that which caused him to miss the home run contest last year.

“Last year I could bat the next day, though the Jays’ star player hinted. This year it’s not just the wrist, it’s a little bit the forearm. So I decided not to play just to be careful.

Guerrero Jr. also said he wants to be back in the lineup Tuesday in Game 1 of a short two-game series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The son of the former Montreal Expos outfielder has had a .318 batting average and seven homers in 33 games since major league action began in 2023.
