Hezbollah condemns Israeli attack on a funeral in southern Lebanon

The Lebanese militia party Hezbollah has denounced an Israeli attack on the funeral of three of its members in the southern city of Aita al Shaab. In retaliation, Lebanese militias fired several projectiles at Kiryat Shmona. An Israeli projectile is said to have hit a house in Aita al Shaab during the funeral of Hasan Maan Sorur, Lebanese television Al Mayadin reports. “The Islamic Resistance announces the firing of projectiles against the occupied city of Al Jalsa (known as the settlement of Kiryat Shmona) on Monday, December 18, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. in response to the enemy attack on a funeral in the city “Aita al Shaab,” Hezbollah reported, according to affiliated television channel Al Manar. The armed group has also warned that “any harm to civilians will attract the same response.” The Israeli Defense Forces have confirmed in its official channels “several launches from Lebanese territory against the Kiryat Shmona area.” The military's statement highlighted that it fired on the source of the attack in response. Hezbollah had previously reported the destruction of two carrier rockets of the Israeli Iron Dome anti-aircraft system in the city of Kabri by artillery fire. On the same Monday, they also attacked Israeli forces in Al Hamra. Meanwhile, Israel reported an attack by a fighter jet and a military helicopter against “terrorist infrastructure on the territory of Lebanon.” In addition, a drone attacked a “terror cell” on Lebanese territory.
