Hilarious “Celebrity Danger!” has contestants admitting “this is actually very, very similar” to classic “SNL” skits

Celebrity Danger! is a popular primetime spin-off of the traditional Jeopardy!, and not just because it stars celebrities. One of Will Ferrell and Saturday Night Live’s most memorable sketch series is Celebrity Jeopardy, which is based on Ferrell, who played Alex Trebek, being frustrated by the contestants’ absurd answers. And Sunday’s real-life episode was very reminiscent of those hilarious bits.

“You know, sometimes contestants on Jeopardy! are afraid to interfere if they don’t know the right answer,” said moderator Mayim Bialick after returning from a commercial break. “You three don’t seem to have that problem.”

Contestants Eddie Huang, Reggie Watts and Iliza Shlesinger were quick with the buzzer but very slow when it came to providing the correct answers. During the trivia show, viewers were reminded of Saturday Night Live’s popular “Celebrity Jeopardy!” Sketch based on famous contestants who provided wrong and often hilarious answers. And it wasn’t just the viewers who were reminded of the old SNL sketches, even the contestants admitted there were some similarities.

“I remember ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ from SNL,” Watts said. “That’s how I remember Jeopardy the most!.”

“Is that how it feels?” Bialik asked

“It’s actually very, very similar,” he admitted. “Not dissimilar. I’m glad they made it. It is great.”

Luckily, all the charities they played for will receive $30,000. This is especially generous given that some of the answers to the Final Jeopardy! References to 19th century literature weren’t very good…or 19th century.

The clue read: “William Brodie, an upstanding Scottish merchant by day and leader of a gang of burglars by night, helped inspire these two title characters.” Shlesinger correctly guessed Jekyll and Hyde, Watts guessed Thelma and Louise, and Huang guessed Peaky Blinders.

Celebrity Danger! airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
