Mandela

The long road to freedom

(Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom – Biography, GBR/ZAF 2013)
Major film adaptation of the dramatic autobiography of Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela, whose death anniversary will be 10 years old on December 5, 2023. Just as an ANC activist in the fight against apartheid, after 27 years in prison on Robben Island , finally celebrated in freedom as President of South Africa – brilliantly embodied by ‘Golden Globe’ winner Idris Elba (‘Luther’), supported by Naomie Harris (‘James Bond: Spectrum and Skyfall’). Extra class biopic!

Nelson Mandela, born in a South African village in 1918, gained attention as a politically active lawyer in Johannesburg in the 1940s. In the fight against the apartheid system, he joined the African National Congress (ANC). His commitment causes his marriage to Evelyn Mase to fail. He then gains an ambitious colleague, social worker Winnie Madikizela. After peaceful protesters are shot by white police in Sharpville, Mandela participates in acts of sabotage. In 1962 he was captured and sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island.
