Vienna (OTS) – They are considered a great achievement of civilization after the horrors of the Second World War. On December 10, 1948, the United Nations proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris. This says nothing less than: “All people are born free and equal in dignity and rights”.
But what is the human rights situation in Austria, Europe and the world today, 75 years later? A new edition of “ZIB 2 History” asks these questions on Tuesday, December 5th at 10:35 pm on ORF 2 (and at 12:25 pm on 3sat), moderated by Martin Thür. How can human rights in war and warfare be similar to those currently maintained in Israel or Ukraine? Why are human rights still in danger today? In a great interview with Martin Thür: UN Secretary General, António Guterres.

This will be followed by the new production “Universum History: Forbidden Desire – Milestones of Queer History” on ORF 2 at 11:10 pm and the film “A Love for Peace – Bertha von Suttner and Alfred Nobel” at 11:55 pm. “History of the Universum: Forbidden Desire – Milestones in Queer History”, 11:10 pm, ORF 2

As part of the ORF program focusing on “75 Years of the Declaration of Human Rights”, the new “Universum History” production “Forbidden Desire – Milestones of Queer History” by director Fritz Kalteis shows how queer self-confidence first developed in Vienna and Berlin during the interwar period – which would soon be brutally destroyed by the Nazis. Austrian-Bavarian artist Ankathie Koi builds a musical bridge between the present and the past and redefined the 100-year-old “Lila Lied” with exclusive music for the documentary.

“A Love for Peace – Bertha von Suttner and Alfred Nobel”, 11:55 pm, ORF 2

Moving and visually stunning portrait of two modern luminaries, co-financed by ORF. Birgit Minichmayr captivatingly portrays Austrian peacekeeper Bertha von Suttner, whose charm and charisma inspired Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel (Sebastian Koch) to award the Nobel Prize. Austrian star Philipp Hochmair shines as Suttner’s husband.
