A man was killed by a camel at a holiday village in Omsk, a Russian city in southwestern Siberia. The animal attacked the 51-year-old village guard after a punch in the muzzle. Before the beating, the animal had shown no signs of aggression. The attack would have been in response to the blow received: the man was first bitten in the face and then kicked under his hooves.
Despite the emergency room in the hospital, there was nothing more that could be done for the 51-year-old. Authorities are now working to understand if the animal was lawfully being held and what its conditions were like at the holiday village.
The scene of the attack was immortalized in a video that went viral on the internet. The 51-year-old can be seen in the picture beating the camel, which until then had shown no signs of aggression. The animal first responded with a few bites all over its body and then by throwing the victim to the ground and trampling them to death. Emergency attempts by doctors were useless who could only determine his death: According to the hospital staff, the man had suffered serious injuries after the attack.

The animal in question would be a Bactrian camel. The species lives in the rocky deserts of Central and East Asia and is used to extreme temperatures. To date, fewer than 1,000 specimens live in the wild and are currently critically endangered. In Russia, unfortunately, these animals are used in the entertainment area of \u200b\u200btourist places, in races and in children’s shows.
The living conditions of these animals in Russian holiday villages are often the subject of discussions for animal rights groups protecting endangered species.
