Pilot Troy Ryan, who has just accepted a four-year contract extension in his role, will lead the Maple Leaf athletes. Besides Ouellette, Kori Cheverie and Doug Derraugh will be his assistants while Brad Kirk Wood will be the goalkeeping coach.
Ouellette, who is also the assistant head coach of the women’s ice hockey team at Concordia University, is the only one in that group who hasn’t traveled to Beijing for the Olympics. However, she was at the World Cup alongside Ryan that same year.
The association is thus counting on stability after a successful year that culminated in winning the gold medal at the World Championships and the Olympic Games in Beijing.
“We are very pleased to announce our women’s national team roster for the upcoming season,” Director of Hockey Operations Gina Kingsbury said in a statement. After a year marked by many achievements, including gold medals in the last three major events, we hope to continue building on the work that has been done with a close-knit and experienced team. With Troy at the helm of the team, we are very excited to begin our adventure in this new four-year cycle.”
The national team’s next game is the Rivalry Series against the United States on November 15 in Kelowna, BC.
