The presenters opened the show with a warm welcome from their audience on Christmas morning.

Holly asks Santa how busy the run up to Christmas must have been for him and mentions he needs a well deserved day off on the 25th.

“Obviously it’s a holiday for all of you, I presume?” Holly asks Santa, who spoke live to the hosts from his grotto at the North Pole.

“Well no, we have a big task today,” Santa Claus tells the host. “Mrs. Claus is making a Christmas dinner for everyone, for everyone – all the elves, the red carpet.

“I look forward to the pigs in blankets and Mrs. Claus loves a good stuffing.”

This stops Holly from laughing and Phil stares comically at the camera.

On the show, the host duo don festive hats during the packed episode, which features performances from the likes of Sir Cliff Richard and The Muppets.

Holly looked festive as always in the snaps from the episode, donning a shimmering silver mini dress with velvet bows and padded shoulders.

While co-host Phil matched, he wore a bright red Santa hat and burgundy shirt.

Holly kicked things off by telling viewers: “It’s the big day! It’s here… it’s so exciting! Whether you’re traveling with friends, family or alone this year, we’ll keep you entertained with lots of festive fun and games!’

The popular duo raised a glass to wish viewers a Merry Christmas and were joined by co-hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

While This Morning favorites such as Rochelle Humes, Giles Brandreth and Carol Vorderman also appeared on the show.

Gyles was on hand to add some fun by getting the hosts to play party games good for Christmas guests – one of which left all four hosts on all fours!

During another game, Alison, Dermot, Phil and Holly tried to open wrapped Christmas presents with oven mitts – they were sitting around a festive fireplace.

Rochelle took time out from the games and served hot, spiced apple juice to relax the hosts.
