‘Home and Away’ star Lynne McGranger announces surprise new role after announcing a ‘dramatic’ exit from the series
For over 30 years she has played Irene Roberts in the legendary soap opera Home and Away.
But Lynne McGranger has now announced a major new role she’s taken on alongside the Cancer Council.
The 70-year-old actress has joined a campaign encouraging people to take colon cancer screening tests.
“Participation rates for colorectal cancer screening tests are very low, like 40 percent, which is pretty awful,” Lynne told 7Life.
“But honestly, the test takes two minutes… do it, it’s easy to do, it’s hygienic and it can save your life.”

She said she felt “blessed” that everything was clear at her first health check-up last year.
Lynne also admitted that she didn’t take her health seriously until her father passed away in 2005.
“I quit smoking and it was a big problem for me, a really big one. “From that point on, I started getting fitter and healthier, and now I exercise three to four days a week,” she said.
This comes after star veteran Lynne recently revealed she plans to leave Home and Away.
The actress has detailed how she plans to exit the soap – and she’s hoping to do so with a bang.

While she won the hearts of the nation with her portrayal of the motherly character, Lynne wants her departure from the series to be dramatic.
“I want to make the biggest bang and the most dramatic exit,” she told Stuff.co.nz in March.
“I want to get lost at sea or die a really sad, long death while everyone around me is crying and wailing.”
“Or Irene could get lost at sea and they never find the body, have the memorial service and all, and then she goes back to town.”
