The practice of begging is proving increasingly profitable.
In Mumbai, India, an unusual story has attracted attention. Bharat Jain, a man who finds himself on the streets, has turned begging into a lucrative and unexpected job.
Local media has reported that Jain has amassed an impressive sum of US$890,708 (R$4,261,715.34) while touring the streets of the tech and financial hub. He is believed to be able to secure a daily income of around US$30 (R$150) per day or US$904 (R$4,320) per month.

Growing up in poverty and without access to formal education, Bharat found begging a way to support his family and overcome the difficulties he faced. Today, he owns a luxurious twobedroom apartment and two shops that earn him an additional monthly income of US$363 (R$1730) through rent. With this income, Bharat can send his children to a convent school, giving them opportunities he didn’t have himself.
Despite pleas from his family to give up the practice, Bharat continues to devote 10 to 12 hours a day to begging, visiting strategic locations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and Azad Maidan sports ground.
