This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to these residents, but on Tuesday the situation required the presence of firefighters.
The septic tanks installed on a section of the Tadoussac boulevard were not sufficient to drain the water that had accumulated since the early hours of Tuesday morning. Four properties were affected, including a house and a garage, on two different properties.
“The river (sic) flowed through the window in the basement,” said France Tremblay of the land where her mother lived. It’s the crawl space that absorbed the water. The problem is mainly caused by smells.
The neighboring couple has to go without their garage for a few days and even have to park their car in a parking lot on the other side of the boulevard.
“We’re not allowed in our garage,” said Lola Tremblay. We were four inches under water and the oil tank tipped over. There was no leak but the tank needs to be replaced.
Less than a kilometer down the boulevard, work continues on the future pumping station. Other residents in the nearby neighborhood also saw the water suddenly rise.
“It wasn’t a sewage problem, it was a drain problem,” Dominic Tremblay said.
“When they activated the pumps, we saw the water dripping, but I don’t know if that’s really the reason,” he added.
Saguenay is struggling to find a single cause that could explain Tuesday’s damage.
“It’s a combination of factors,” Marie-Ève Carrier said. There was more water than our pipes could handle, but was that because of water running off the mountain or because of heavy rain?”
