Tegucigalpa, Oct. 27 (Prensa Latina) Honduras today sets high expectations for participation in the next import fair that will be held in the Chinese city of Shanghai, where it is betting on the development of investments and tourism.
According to the Minister of Economic Development of this Central American country, Fredis Cerrato, Honduras will have about 30 companies exhibiting their respective products at the Asian giant’s commercial event. “We hope that they will sign contracts and, from this moment on, determine the prices, quantities and frequency with which it will be sold and exported to China,” the official said in statements to Channel 8 television.
Cerrato added that they hope to set up a business office in Shanghai to help Honduran businessmen communicate better, with the state present in the transactions they can make.
For his part, the head of investment promotion, Miguel Medina, said that President Xiomara Castro led the establishment of approaches and agreements in four essential areas related to the manufacturing, infrastructure, tourism and energy sectors.
“Look for companies we would like to bring to Honduras among the many who have visited us. There are four major companies that are very interested and have already purchased land. They have people working to build their factories and that is part of the support they will provide us on this journey,” he emphasized.
The event, which will take place from November 5th to 10th, will feature Honduras as the guest of honor and, according to authorities, tobacco, shrimp, coffee and cocoa will be promoted, among other products. Tegucigalpa and Beijing established diplomatic relations in March this year after that Central American country severed ties with the island of Taiwan and recognized the principle of “One China.”
Last June, Honduran President Xiomara Castro, along with a delegation from her government, paid an official visit to China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.
