“Honestly, I thought he was a coward”: A driver accused of dangerous driving and fleeing the scene of an accident in Abitibi

A 25-year-old young man involved in an accident in Abitibi-Témiscamingue last September that killed two people has finally been accused of dangerous driving and fleeing the scene of the accident instead of helping the victims.

“Honestly, I thought he was a coward,” reacted Deanna Michel, sister of Amyrah Maranda, some time after Nathaniel Frigon’s arrest.

The young driver was recently handcuffed following a lengthy investigation into the Sept. 9 two-fatality crash in Amos.

The impact unfortunately claimed the lives of Mario Lessard, 28, and Amyrah Maranda, 21, mother of a one-year-old girl.

Frigon appeared at the Amos courthouse last week.

He faces eight charges, including dangerous driving causing death and hit-and-run.

inattention

On the evening of the tragedy, the driver had three passengers on board his vehicle.

They were friends with whom he had spent the afternoon riding a longboard skateboard.

Before returning, the quartet went to two different places where they consumed alcoholic beverages, the only surviving passenger, Joanie Doiron, told the Journal shortly after the events.

On the way back, the 28-year-old young woman noticed that the Landrienne resident was “driving badly” behind the wheel of his small black car.

“He had moments of inattention,” she told us.

Then she raised her eyes to look ahead.

“We lined up in the field,” Ms. Doiron said.

Disappeared

At that moment, the car left the road, rolled over and ended up in the ditch on Airport Road.

The force of the impact caused the vehicle to separate a post.

Only the mother of two among the passengers managed to escape from the car.

However, witnesses at the scene of the accident said there was no trace of the driver.

This version of events, which will have to be discussed in court, enrages the deceased's sister, who was the defendant's girlfriend.

“I thought he was a coward because he ran away instead of waiting for the emergency services,” complains Dreanna Michel. I hope he [Frigon] He will never drive again in his life and he will have time indoors [en prison] what he deserves.”
