Shocked shoppers confronted a mother who brought her infant son to Walmart in freezing weather wearing only a diaper.

The little boy shivered as he sat in a shopping cart at the store in Jackson, Mississippi, on Wednesday during last week's winter storm.

That day the temperature dropped to 17°C, but the child was not given appropriate clothing for the shopping trip.

Felicia Nicole, a Walmart employee who confronted the mother along with other shoppers, said she was fired after posting a video of the boy online.

The young woman said it was 20°C or colder when the mother and child came in and the boy was only wearing a diaper, no shirt, socks or shoes.

Shocked shoppers confronted a mother who brought her infant son to Walmart in freezing weather wearing only a diaper. This happened after another shopper put a jacket on the boy. The mother (left) simply continued her shopping and threw groceries into the shopping cart next to her son

She said before her video began, another shopper put a black jacket on the boy after his mother refused to get him something to wear.

At one point, the toddler was visibly shaking and his teeth were chattering.

'What are you missing?' an older man repeatedly asked the mother as she grabbed the grocery shelves and tossed them into the cart next to her son.

She turned and told the man to lower his voice, then pushed her cart away and walked toward Felicia's camera.

Felicia and other shoppers said someone should call the police, but the mother appeared to say that the police had been called twice before.

“As long as you have hot water and a fire extinguisher…” she said before pausing dramatically.

“If you come into the store fully dressed and your baby isn't…” Felicia replied.

“How many children do you have?” the mother shot back and Felicia said she had a child as the woman turned around and pushed her shopping cart through the freezer aisle.

A second video showed a friendly older shopper, a woman on an electric scooter, dressing the boy in a long-sleeved shirt and pants she had bought for him.

While she dressed the toddler, his mother stood next to the shopping cart, fiddling with her phone.

Felicia later posted an update to her TikTok followers confirming that the police had been called about the mother.

“Yes, we called the police. I mean, why shouldn't we? Why shouldn't we?' She said, holding back tears.

“If you see a child being neglected, wear no clothes, just a diaper, no shoes, no socks, no shirt, nothing.” So why shouldn’t we call the police?

Felicia said the woman asked her if she had a child and she did – but it died.

On the wall behind her was a photo of a small child lying in a hospital bed with a tube down his throat.

“If my child was alive, there is no way my child would be out there with no clothes on, just a diaper,” she said.

In response to a comment on her video, she wrote: “Some people don't need children! They need to have their fallopian tubes tied and burned.”

Felicia later said that hours after she posted the original videos, her manager called her and demanded that they be removed – which she did.

She was not scheduled to work last Thursday and Friday, and after reporting to work on Saturday, she was suddenly fired two hours before the end of her shift.

“For the sake of the child, I made it my mission to take him in. “No, I didn’t think about the consequences at the time. At that time, my main focus was on this innocent poor child and getting him some help,” she said.

“Now I’m unemployed because I was just trying to help and save the baby.”

A fundraiser to help pay Felicia's bills while she looks for a new job has raised nearly $4,000.

Former Planned Parenthood director Dr. Abby Johnson, was one of many viewers horrified by the videos after they were reposted on Twitter.

“It would be impossible for me not to grab the baby and hold it close to my body until it warms up and stops shaking.” “If this woman treats him like that in public, imagine what will happen to him in private “, she wrote.

“I hope that their children are removed and placed in a safe, loving home. “So many families would be willing to provide him with that home, including ours.”

Jackson police did not return calls to confirm whether action was taken against the boy's mother.
