Reports of the South L.A. crash come several months after police responded to the fiery chain-reaction crash on Interstate 10 in Chandler that involved six cars.

Danny G. Tiner, 36, was driving a semi-truck and using TikTok on his cellphone seconds before he caused a freeway crash in the Phoenix area in January 2023 that killed five people.

He was arrested at his home on several charges related to the accident, including five counts of manslaughter.

An investigation found that shortly before the fatal accident, Tiner was driving 55 mph in a construction zone at 68 mph and was actively using the social media app on his cell phone.

Tiner’s tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle, pushing it into another semi-trailer and two other cars.

Most of the victims were trapped in burning vehicles as the fire caused by the accident lasted for about two hours.

Initially, Tiner told police that he had received a message on an electronic tablet and was confirming it.

When he looked up, he said traffic was stopped and he couldn’t stop his semi-trailer in time to avoid a collision.
