Hospital rescue flight crashes in Nevada desert, killing all five on board

A medical service plane en route to a hospital crashed in the Nevada desert, killing a patient, the patient’s relative, a nurse and a paramedic.

The pilot was also killed in the Friday night tragedy in the town of Stagecoach, 25 miles southeast of Reno. The flight was operated by Care Flight, who are yet to identify any of those killed.

When contacted by on Saturday, they also refused to give details of the condition of the dead patient who necessitated the flight. The cause of the crash has not yet been clarified, investigations are ongoing.

On Saturday morning, Care Flight, the airline service of REMSA – the Regional Emergency Services Authority – announced on Facebook the devastating news that their PC 12 fixed-wing aircraft with tail number N273SM had “disappeared from radar” at around 9:45 p.m. All were on board died.

The company wrote that they were completely “heartbroken.”

“We are in the process of notifying their family members,” the statement said. “Our immediate focus is to help our team members and families, as well as the relevant authorities.”

Lyon County authorities were alerted to the plane crash after receiving numerous calls around 9:15 p.m., CNN reported.

First responders from the Lyon and Douglas counties responded and located the plane about two hours later, at around 11:15 p.m.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but the Central Lyon Fire Department and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department are working with the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the cause, which they said is under investigation, Care Flight said.

Dale Miller, communications director for REMSA and Care Flight, told they had received multiple calls since the incident and could not yet comment on whether all the victims had been identified.

“We are working to compile the information and the investigation is ongoing,” he said.

Miller added that under HIPAA they are unable to disclose the hospital and patient’s medical condition — on the doomed flight.

REMSA Health is on a “passive standstill” for all flights across the company.

The company, which provides emergency ground services, said it is working with each of its operations to determine when services can resume.
