Hostage deal: Netanyahu expects “good news” soon

Five days of pause in fighting, hundreds of trucks with humanitarian aid and the release of hostages in the Gaza Strip and prisoners from Israeli prisons: according to the radical Islamist Hamas, these could be the cornerstones of an agreement with Israel that is now each increasingly taking concrete form.

Both sides have come much closer to agreeing on a ceasefire and hope it happens soon, Hamas politburo member Issat al-Rishk told al-Arabija, according to the Hamas Telegram channel. According to multiple media reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told soldiers that things were moving forward. He hopes there will be “good news” soon.

In the evening, the head of government brought together the war cabinet, the security cabinet and the government.

Report Details

Specifically, 50 of the 240 hostages kidnapped in Israel on October 7, including foreigners, will be released, as reported by the Israeli news website Ynet and local media outlets in the coastal strip, citing Hamas. In return, Israel was to release 300 women and minor Palestinian prisoners from prisons.

According to the information, civilians detained in the Gaza Strip will be released gradually – ten people per day. The release of Palestinian prisoners must therefore also occur gradually.

The agreement also allows 300 trucks carrying food, medical supplies and fuel to enter the Gaza Strip. Hamas said it agreed to the deal.
