SEATTLE — The Houston Astros placed All-Star Ryan Pressly on Saturday’s 10-day injury list due to an infection in his right knee.
The right-hander featured in four games in the first week of the regular season. Manager Dusty Baker said Pressly had been in pain for a few days and the team sent him back to Houston for an additional check-up.
Pressly’s speed had dropped noticeably in his early appearances, but Baker didn’t think the knee problem was a factor. Pressly was 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA and three saves to start the season.
“I asked him and he said he didn’t think it was. That’s your leg kick, too,” Baker said. “He’s a tough guy and he won’t apologize. Like I said, we just have to get it right.”

Houston selected Triple-A Sugar Land left-hander Parker Mushinski to take Pressly’s roster spot. Mushinski will make his major league debut in his first appearance.
Baker said the closer point will likely be a combination of guys, depending on matchups, but specifically mentioned Rafael Montero, Hector Neris and Ryne Stanek.
Batsman-designate Yordan Alvarez was also back at the stadium after missing several days with a non-COVID illness. Baker said Alvarez would go through pre-game practice and then be assessed when he can return to the lineup.
