Yemen’s Houthi rebels have joined the war between Israel and Hamas, which rages more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) from their headquarters in Sanaa.

This Tuesday (31) the Houthis claimed responsibility for drone and rocket attacks against Israel.

As part of an Iranbacked “Axis of Resistance,” the Houthis have banded together in support of Hamas, which carried out a terrorist attack in Israel on October 7.

The Houthis’ entry into the conflict opens a new front for the group, which has been waging war against a Saudibacked Yemeni coalition in the Gulf since 2014.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that the group had fired a “large number” of ballistic missiles and drones against Israel and that there would be more such attacks “to help the Palestinians win.” .

The Israeli military said the Arrow air defense system intercepted a missile fired into its territory in the Red Sea.

The Arrow is one of the most modern antiaircraft systems in the world. The system tracks, intercepts and destroys missiles that could threaten strategic areas or population centers.
