Yemen’s Houthi rebels announced a three-day ceasefire against the Saudi-led military coalition, promising a “permanent” ceasefire. The statement came yesterday, a day after rebels attacked several targets in the neighboring country. One of the targets was an oil facility in Jeddah, close to the Formula 1 circuit. The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix is scheduled to take place there today.
Rebel leader Mahdi al-Mashat announced the “suspension of missile and drone attacks and all military actions for a period of three days”. He also promised a “permanent” ceasefire: “We are ready to turn this declaration into a final and permanent commitment,” he said.
The condition for this is that “Saudi Arabia commits to ending the siege and its attacks on Yemen once and for all.”
Saudi Arabia responded to the Houthi attacks with retaliatory attacks on the cities of Sanaa and Hodeidah. Four boats loaded with explosives were destroyed. The country did not respond to the Houthi rebels’ ceasefire announcement.
