The relationship between Washington Corozo and the fan of Sporty Crystal Emotions have been up and down since the 2021 season. The Ecuadorian was one of the best players on the team and in League 1 in 2020, the year he formed a great attacking trident alongside Emanuel Herrera and Christopher Olivares//Kevin Sandoval. While not Cristal’s best finisher at the time, he was vital to winning the title and the vast majority of his performances were outstanding. He was without a doubt the club’s best signing.
However, things changed abruptly when Sporting Cristal took part in the 2021 Copa Libertadores. That year, the side then led by Roberto Mosquera narrowly secured a place in the Copa Sudamericana after finishing third in Group E with four points. Throughout the group stage, Washington Corozo gained a bad reputation for failing to score clear goals in almost every game. Today he “washed his face” after scoring against The Strongest.

Washington Corozo and his transfer to Sporting Cristal
Washington Corozo was announced as a brand new Sporting Cristal player on January 10, 2020. He was the third reinforcement of the season and without a doubt the one who raised the most expectations. At the age of 21, Corozo arrived with the mark of having become the 2019 Copa Sudamericana champion with Independiente del Valle. The fact that he came from the academy of this prestigious club was already encouraging and it was also known that the winger had competed in the U-17 and U-20 World Cups.
Regarding his arrival at Cristal, José Bellina announced a few years ago that his discovery was in search of competitors with characteristics not common in Peru. The club’s former sports manager stressed that Corozo’s pace was impressive and different from that of Peruvian football. In addition to his training within the ranks of Independiente del Valle, they played for him with confidence that he would make a difference here.

Since making his professional debut in 2015 at the age of 17, Washington Corozo has played 64 games for Independiente del Valle, scoring 6 goals. In the 2019 season, he had more continuity and although he wasn’t always in the starting XI, he played in most South American games. Recall that Corozo was on loan at Pumas UNAM and Austin in MLS and returned to Cristal after the end of the last stint.
How much is Washington Corozo worth and until when does he have a contract with Sporting Cristal?
According to Transfermarkt, Washington Corozo is currently worth around €750,000. His value has increased slightly to $50,000 since his return from Austin, which is higher than the market value he had when he first arrived at Sporting Cristal. However, he is far from Yoshimar Yotún and Ignácio, the most expensive players in the squad (1.3 million). It had its highest value when it belonged to Pumas UNAM.
Washington Corozo has a contract with Sporting Cristal until December 2023. He has been on loan for two of the four seasons he has been at the club and rumors of a possible move to another foreign side have simmered throughout the year. Currently, Corozo is not a regular in Tiago Nunes’ squad but he is usually a permanent substitute and there is nothing concrete about a hypothetical match at the moment.
