Discord is one step closer to many other instant messaging services. While Discord is mostly known for servers (like Frandroid), it is also a private messaging application like Messenger or WhatsApp. It announces important changes to its mobile application.
A new interface for the Discord mobile application
The tab navigation at the bottom of the screen has been changed. From now on you have access to servers, messages, notifications as well as settings and your profile. The first tab, which allows access to the servers, no longer allows you to view your private messages, but the layout remains similar (especially for the PC experience).

The Notifications tab displays all messages that mention you, whether in private messages or server channels. There are also friend requests and server events.
When Discord becomes more like any other messaging app
The Messages tab has been completely redesigned to look like Messenger, with the name of the group conversation or your correspondent, the profile photo(s) of the interlocutors and a short excerpt of the last message. The Discord blog says above this conversation list: “You can see what all your friends are doing, whether they’re in a voice chat, playing a game or activity, or just listening to music on Spotify.” » Beyond that You can mark specific conversations as favorites so that they always appear at the top.

A search option allows you to search all messages and files in your discussions, unlike before where you had to go to each conversation to search for a message. A menu lets you view all shared media and links, as well as pinned messages and discussion threads.

Beyond the UI changes, Discord is proud to have improved the performance of its application. For example, opening time was reduced by 55% on Android and 43% on iOS. Additionally, “the mobile app now uses four times less data when first loaded and saves your latest messages in the background,” Discord writes on its blog. Finally, the number of app crashes on Android was reduced by half.
Features are coming to Discord or being improved
To reply to a message, you no longer have to click on the message and then click Reply. To do this, as with other apps, simply swipe your finger from right to left over a message. The Midnight Theme was in beta for several months and was activated through a secret manipulation. Now it is available for all smartphones with OLED screens.

At the beginning of the year, the size limit for files that can be sent was increased to 25 MB. In addition, the mobile application allows you to send multiple files at the same time. When we view a photo that has been sent to us, we can scroll to view previous photos without having to leave the interface. Another change: When sending multiple photos in a message, they are no longer displayed in their original size, but are grouped in a grid.
The new version of the Discord app is rolling out to all iOS and Android users. If you don’t have access to it yet, don’t worry and wait.
