Google is currently testing a feature for Keep, its note-taking application. It allows you to use AI to create “magic lists,” whether for your shopping or listing what you need to take on vacation.
What if you no longer had to write your shopping list? What if it was an artificial intelligence that took care of it? ChatGPT can already do this by telling it what dishes you want to cook, but the interface still leaves a lot to be desired. This is where Google has its hand in the game: the note-taking application Google Keep can be used as a shopping list. That’s a good thing: “Magic Lists” could be arriving soon.
“Magic lists” that generate themselves in Google Keep
While searching the APK code of the Google Keep application, 9to5Google found traces of the “Magic Lists” functionality (or “Listes Magiques” in French). It is described as a “creative note-taking aid.”
Google has already tested a similar function in the past. In 2022, an experiment by the AI Test Kitchen (an AI testing platform) called “List It” enabled the use of LaMDA (one of the company’s language models) to create a list of subtasks based on a goal described to it.

If there are at least three words, Google’s AI can create bulleted lists. For example, we can ask what we need for a camping trip with children: This is an example from the application. We can also easily imagine a shopping list and school supplies.
Although it’s not explained, we can imagine that in the future Google Keep could create lists from our notes, summarizing the notes scribbled (or rather, typed) during a work meeting or class. Like the writing assistance feature in Gmail, the tool displays the list before you add it to your note.
Google disclaims responsibility for what its AI may tell you
In the application code there is text that should be displayed to users. It says: “This is a creative note-taking tool and is not intended to be factual. » The idea is probably that Google takes no responsibility for what Keep advises its users.
Magic Lists is also limited: if the list does not comply with the terms of use or is too complex to create, a message will be displayed. It says the tool is “still learning, and we can’t help you.” »
