‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Star Lucy Boynton: How I Felt When Rami Malek Told The World He Loved Me During His Oscars Speech
She has been acting since the age of 12, won worldwide fame with her first big movie role and melted the heart of a Hollywood celebrity.
But Bohemian Rhapsody star Lucy Boynton told You magazine today that despite her fast-paced career and romance with Rami Malek, she struggled with low self-confidence.
Born in New York but raised in the South. LondonLucy, 28, says having two British journalists as parents should have helped her prepare for life in the spotlight.
“Hearing about the interviews with actors from my mom made me a little less intimidated,” she says. “But I forget everything as soon as I enter it, because I am very nervous.”
She credits the award-winning Freddie Mercury biopic, in which he plays his closest friend Mary Austin, for whom he wrote The Love of My Life, to boost her self-confidence.
With this film, she achieved great success – both romantically and in her career. In his speech at the 2019 Oscars for Best Actor, Malek, 40, who played Mercury, said: “Lucy Boynton, you are the heart of this film, you are incredibly talented, you won my heart.” Many thanks.’

She told You magazine, “It sounds so stupid, but I didn’t really know about the public element of it. You just absorb, millisecond by millisecond, what is happening, and then all of a sudden you hear applause and you realize that it was a public moment, which is a little strange.
She adds: “I learned from Bohemian Rhapsody that people want to talk to you about what’s going on. It can be really intimidating, but I try to remember that everyone… is taking a swing at it.
“I grew up in a very creative environment… that doesn’t follow a certain structure, and that’s liberating because when my work didn’t follow a certain path, there was no panic.”
