Severe hailstorms caused massive devastation in southern Bavaria over the weekend. Numerous towns and communities in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district resemble a disaster area.
Storms that have not been seen for decades devastated entire homes in the German district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen over the weekend. Hundreds of roofs were destroyed, thousands of cars were affected.
Huge hail in Bavaria: damage in the millions
The municipality of Benediktbeuern was particularly hard hit. Hundreds of deployment sites have been registered since Saturday, only a fraction have been processed so far.
Almost every house is affected. Many roofs are completely destroyed or covered, scrapped solar systems. Time is pressing, because it started to rain continuously. Hundreds of Upper Bavarian roofing companies are in action. Roofs are covered with tarps. The damage is in the millions.

The well-known Benediktbeuern monastery was also completely devastated. Almost all of the historic window panes were broken in the monastery. Firefighters and the technical relief organization use large cranes to cover the roof of the monastery.
